PM PEDIATRICS AND LI COALITION AGAINST BULLYING JOIN FORCES TO HELP PARENTS AND KIDS ON LONG ISLAND

Massapequa Park, NY (May 21, 2019) – In an effort to provide parents and kids with an additional pathway to help and support, PM Pediatrics today announced a pilot program collaboration with the Long Island Coalition Against Bullying (LICAB) to provide a confidential referral to resources that can help combat bullying.

As part of the announcement, doctors showed off the lapel pins that will indicate to parents and kids that anti-bullying resources are available for the asking.

“Bullying doesn’t take the summer off,” said Dr. Sheryl Cohen, PM Pediatrics Southern NY Regional Medical Director and Assistant Director of Telemedicine. “Sadly, if kids are injured by bullies and seek out medical attention, our doctors can be a point of contact for parents and kids who might need to connect with LICAB for services. It’s a no-brainer of a collaboration.”

“Sadly, I’ve seen the victims of bullies have to seek medical attention. Often, they disguise the injury as an accident because they are scared or ashamed,” said Joe Salamone, Founder & Executive Director of LICAB. “We need to provide a confidential and welcoming way for kids and parents to access the help they need in combating bullies and their unacceptable behavior.”

Having an additional touchpoint at PM Pediatrics will provide a safe and confidential way to access LICAB’s network to reduce and deter bullying, especially over the summer months, when children lose the resources provided by school districts, teachers, nurses and guidance counsellors.

“I am so grateful that PM Pediatrics is partnering with LICAB. The trusted relationship between medical professionals and their patients in a great platform to open up the discussion of bullying,” said Bernice Simpson, mother of a child who has been challenged by bullying. “Resources like LICAB are vital to parents trying to help their child navigate a very stressful situation and we welcome the added support.”
