Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island and the Long Island Coalition Against Bullying (LICAB) are joining forces for a collaborative and synergistic partnership to harness the power of mentoring and anti-bullying prevention to support Nassau and Suffolk County children and youth. LICAB’s mission emphasizes the importance of bully-free communities on Long Island through education, increased awareness, and therapeutic outlets. In contrast, BBBSLI’s mission is to create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth.

Speaking about the alliance, LICAB Founder & Executive Director Joe Salamone said, “We at LICAB are thrilled to be partnering with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island. At a time when we are witnessing a tremendous increase in bullying in the wake of the pandemic, it is more important than ever to be able to offer a network of support for victims to turn to. Time and time again, we have witnessed the positive effects a mentor can have on a child. Through this partnership, our organizations can together create student mentors that can support their peers and can arm both students and families with the proper training to offer help in times of need. We are equally excited to be able to conduct educational programs and offer valuable — and potentially lifesaving — resources to the families that join the BBBSLI family who may be impacted by bullying. All in all, this ability to collaborate brings us great joy and hope for the future.”

“Successful partnerships with other local youth servicing organizations are key to the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island mission. The collaboration between Big Brothers Big Sisters and Long Island Coalition Against Bullying will contribute to brighter futures, better schools, and stronger communities for all.” Explained  BBBSLI Director of Programs, Fabiola Turner.
